Since the 1980s, China's steel-making industry has stepped into a stage of rapid development. The popularization application of modern steel-making technologies such as continuous casting secondary refining the increase of clean steel output have made the service conditions of ladle brick refractory worse.

The increase of molten steel temperature, the prolongation of residence time of molten steel in ladle brick, the erosion of molten steel slag on the refractory of ladle brick the chemical erosion of slag on the refractory of ladle brick are more serious. The former refractory of ladle brick can meet the needs of modern steel-making production. Therefore, a variety of refractories for Al Mg (c) ladle bricks have been developed in China. In the process of using Al Mg (c) refractories, alumina MgO react at high temperature to form magnesia alumina spinel, which is a mineral with excellent high temperature performance, which can significantly improve the corrosion resistance spalling resistance of the refractory. Therefore, the use of alumina magnesium (carbon) refractory can greatly improve the service life of ladle bricks.


In the early 1980s, luonai, Anshan jiaonai Institute Anshan Iron Steel Co., Ltd. jointly developed the overall ramming material for Al Mg ladle bricks. The ramming material is an amorphous refractory with good plasticity, which is made of super high bauxite clinker as aggregate, mixed powder of super high bauxite clinker powder sintered magnesia powder as matrix, liquid sodium silicate as binder. The service life of 200t ladle brick in Angang No.3 Steelmaking Plant is 5-7 times longer than that of clay brick. The average service life is 85.15 times, reaching 108 times. The refractory consumption per ton of steel is 2.7kg. In June 1982, the ramming material passed the appraisal of the former Ministry of metallurgy. After that, this kind of ramming material has been used in many steel-making plants in China, good results have been achieved.
